How to make the most of winter? The answer is simple: travel as much as you can but in a safe manner!

Whenever we think of winter the first thoughts that come to our mind is related to the cold. We’re picturing with sadness how we have to walk through some sort of blizzard, facing the hardship of the cold season. There many things to overcome in the harsh white world. But the reality is, we are actually missing out on something truly spectacular, just because we get caught up in the idea of what we consider comfort to be. There are pros and cons to the winter’s gifts and shortcomings. Once we get to know winter to its strengths and weaknesses, we can enjoy it without getting mad too often.

So what if it is snowing and the temperatures are below 0 degrees Celsius? So what if you have to take several layers of clothes when going outside? Winter really has a magical side if you were to devote a little time to appreciate it. And the best way to do it is by going on short trips to some very interesting places.

You can begin your touristic explorations with an Eastern-European country. Romania is truly magnificent during winter, especially within the mountains. The Carpathians can make you feel like you’re in a fairy tale and that magic really exists. Here, you can learn to love the cold. It may sound a little hard to believe, but once you decide to give winter a chance, you’ll realize that it can be a pretty amazing season (not just fun for Christmas or New Year). There were many people that decided to visit Romania in the last couple of years. They were more than happy to discover the beauty of our sublime country.

Let’s try an imagination exercise. Picture a quiet evening within a small mountain resort. Outside is snowing peacefully and it’s inviting you to go out and enjoy this little miracle of Mother Nature. Every snowflake is carefully placed on the white coat covering the earth. One may even think there is a certain pattern that they follow like they were programmed to fall in a certain way. It’s a mesmerizing effect of winter. Now you can build a snowman, create a small campfire and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows. It’s also a good way to have a laugh with the kids and your friends. There are many activities that transform a simple trip into something amazing.

In the morning you can go skiing, snowboarding or skating. If you’re feeling courageous you can even go mountain trekking (of course safety comes first). Winter is starting to sound more and more appealing, doesn’t it? So why fear it instead of embracing this beautiful season? You can find many lovely locations in Romania to visit and create lovely memories.

Which are some of the most beautiful weekend destinations for winter 2019 in Romania? We have a couple of suggestions for you that we’ll present in more detail in the following lines.

Amazing weekend winter destinations in Romania

Time for holidays is always very short and sadly, quite rare. If we’re lucky we may get two big vacations per year, but other than that, it’s pretty much routine and lots of work. It’s a compromise we make in order to have a little bit of comfort and stability. However, life isn’t all about work and fulfilling tasks or doing presentations. Each weekend can become a source of fun and an excellent memory with friends. Despite the fact that it’s winter, with a little bit of preparation and patience, you will be able to have many more trips along the year.

With this in mind, we have a couple of recommendations for what to visit this winter in Romania. If you are seeking a couple of moments far away from the stress and agitation of big cities, then you’re in luck. Certain mountain resorts in Romania are real natural paradises, surrounded by nothing but dense forest, beautiful meadows and inviting mountains. If you’re lucky, you may get to have a lake nearby and skate on it! Here are a couple of destinations that you should include on your list:

Colibita, a quiet and magical resort hidden within the mountains. It was built near the lake that has the same name as the resort. During winter, it freezes which means that you may have the chance to walk or skate on it. Even if it’s quite cold, you can build a fire and warm yourself around it while sharing fun stories with friends.

Poiana-Brasov. If you feel like going skiing and having access to some of the most interesting touristic objectives in the country, then Poiana Brasov may be the right choice. It’s located in the southern part of Romania, close by Brasov, Bran Castle, Ransov Citadel, Sibiu and others. Here you will find a lovely combination of modern elements and historical ones.

Vatra-Dornei, a lovely resort in the northern part of the country. Here you will find spectacular views along with welcoming people willing to share with you a glass of wine and a warm meal. A few kilometers to the north, you will Borsa, another interesting destination to consider for your winter travels. It’s positioned in the heart of Maramures, close to dozens of wooden churches and monasteries and to the famous steam train, Mocanita.

Also, believe it or not, here you can visit the “Happy Cemetary” in Spanata. This is, as the name suggests it, a cemetery but there is a catch to it! The gravestones are carefully decorated, painted and there are fun anecdotes written on them that depict the essential traits of the deceased. It’s a different way to approach death. Why should we always be sad about this concept?

Nonetheless, the point of your weekend trips is to unwind and have fun. However, it doesn’t hurt to learn a controversial thing or two on the way. However, in order to get around in Romania especially during winter, you will need to rent a good car for carefree travels. If you will collaborate with a serious rental firm, they can be waiting for you with the desired vehicle straight at the airport.

AutoBoca can be of help at this aspect. We’re a professional and serious company with over 10 years of experience in the auto field. We’re always ready to help! For your winter travels to Romania, we recommend that you rent a Suzuki Vitara, a beautiful SUV, strong and fit to face the difficulties of this season.
